Why, Yes! There Will Be Blu-ray

    Hi Everyone,

Today we announce that the film is going to be available in gorgeous 1080P Blu-ray!  We’ve had tons of requests for this, and always wanted to make it happen.  And now we can finally say that yes: ‘Indie Game: The Movie’ will be available in Blu-ray Format.

You can preorder the Regular Edition or Special Edition Blu-ray here.  Note:  All DVD and Blu-Ray preorders will include a free DRM-free digital download bundled in with the purchase.  This will be the case until the physical versions of the film begin shipping.

Question:  But wait!  I already pre-ordered my copy of the film as a DVD, but I’d rather have Blu-ray!  Can I upgrade?

Answer:  Everyone who pre-ordered the physical DVD will have the option for a free upgrade to Blu-ray.  We will be sending out an email form closer to the ship date of the physical discs.  On this form you’ll be asked to confirm/update your address and if you’d like to upgrade to Blu-ray. YOU MUST CHOOSE OR ‘OPT IN’ to receive the Blu-ray. AND, YOU MUST CONFIRM YOUR ADDRESS. We won't ship the pre-ordered disks until we receive your current address.

Question:  Will the DVD and Blu-ray editions be exactly the same in terms of content?

Answer:  Hopefully, but not necessarily.  We are going to try to keep them as identical as reasonably possible.  However, much more content can fit on a Blu-ray., and while we are not afraid of doing multiple DVDs in order to match Blu-ray capacity.  There may be some extras that fit on the Blu-ray. that won’t find a home on the DVD.  We are going to try to prevent this.  And we have no idea what the specific feature list is just yet (especially for the special edition, as we are still creating for it).  Whatever the end case is though, we’ll likely work out a way that DVD people can catch any content that they miss because of format.

In other words, we won’t leave you hanging :)

    Question:  When?

Answer:  We hope to have the Regular Edition DVDs & Blu-ray will be shipping this summer.  The Special Edition has a much more extended and open timeline.  It's very much a work in progress and we still have a lot of content to create (not only editing, but we're filming some new stuff as well).  We are not putting a date on the Special Edition, but we will be working hard until its done & shipping.  But don't worry, we'll be blogging and communicating all through the process, so you'll know what we're up to.

Note:  In both the Regular and Special edition versions, we're aiming to have the Blu-ray and DVD will ship at the same time.  In other words, there is no time advantage if you choose one format over another.

Are there any news about the Region Code for the Blu-ray? Would be really nice if the Blu-ray would be codefree. :)

I guess it's too complicated to do, but it would be great if we could upgrade from the $15 kickstarter pledge to the special edition Blu-ray... I was on the fence originally (would have gone for a special edition download), but now I've seen the cover for the blu-ray it would be really neat.

If you pre-order the blu-ray special ed. do you get the digital ed. too?

As Torben, I prefer to be sure the Blu-ray is codefree (or, at least, available for zone 2) before to buy it.

Like Torben and Christophe, I would like to know if the Blu-ray will be region free?
    Thanks!

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for the questions. Here's some answers...

    1) Region-Free: We'll be aiming to go region-free. Unless there is some weird reason in which we can't or it doesn't make sense to do it - I can't imagine not going region-free. There is no reason for our release to adhere to regions. It's silly.

Now, having said that, we have yet to completely produce and place the order for the units. There may be some strange reason why we can't. I have no idea what that would be. But until we are 100% confirmed that'll be region-free, I can only say that we plan to do it.

If for some reason, we do go region-ed, and that doesn't fit your plans - we'll happily refund your order.

    2) Upgrading your order: Yes, we can do that. Send us an email at indiegamethemovie[at]me[dot]com and we'll make it happen if you'd like.

3)Any physical edition pre-order DVD or BluRay will receive a VHX DRM-free digital edition. This will be in place until the DVDs/Blu-Rays are shipping.

I think that's it. Thanks for asking!

    Hey, I have a question...
You're trying to fit the Bluray content on multiple DVDs, so the DVD Special Edition will have a bigger case (So it can fit mulitple DVDs). When I get a Special Edition of something, I want people to be able to see that I have one. When I get the Bluray version, it'll just be one slim case, and that's barely noticeable on a shelf.

Should I get the DVD version, which has a larger case (I assume), or should I get the Bluray which has 1080p footage? Are there physical extras that the Special Edition has and the Regular Edition doesn't?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey Williem,

We're not too sure how it'll all shake out just yet. We are certainly going to try and have similar packaging for the two versions. The more consistency from a packaging perspective the easier and more efficient it is on our end. So I wouldn't bank on the DVD and BR packages being remarkably different.

However, in terms of the special edition, this is all fairly far down the road. My advice would be to wait until the packaging is finalized. Or if you'd like to buy now, go for the format that you'd enjoy watching more - as I'm pretty sure we'll be aiming to keep the outside packaging similar b/w DVD and BR.

Worst case scenario, if the situation changes, we'll happily change/refund your order before it ships.

    Thanks for asking

Ah, that's great to hear. I guess it is more practical for you to have similar packaging, with shipping and printing prices. Will the final packaging details be released before the release date? That way I can still get the pre-order version instead of the regular Special Edition. I'm sorry if I'm asking way too many questions in the wrong place.

Thanks for the fast answer and thanks in advance for your next answer,
Willem. (Without the 'i', I'm from The Netherlands, we do things differently here. ;P)

    Hey Willem (no 'i' :)

Yes. We'll definitely be releasing packaging details before shipping.

The special edition will likely ship late 2012. Though we are not putting a date on it yet (we're still editing & actually shooting new stuff).

But the regular DVD will be shipping hopefully in July.

One little wrinkle: we will not be announcing/showing the SE packaging before the reg DVD is shipping. Simply b/c we will not have it ready/created by then. That'll likely happen in Fall-ish I imagine

    Take care

Alright, thanks for answering so fast again!
Consider yourself 69 (minus production costs) dollars richer! (When the packiging details are released. :P)

    Thanks again,
Willem (You've learned something today! No 'i' indeed. :P)
