WHOA!  Indie Game: The Movie is a 'Critic's Pick' of the New York Times!  Also, the Los Angeles Times gave the film a lovely review as well.

This Friday Indie Game: The Movie is opening in New York, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Francisco!

As we pack our bags to go to New York, it's starting to sink that ... this is kinda a big deal. 

For any documentary film, a theatrical release is a long shot.  Let alone a multi-city release featuring an engagement at prestigious theaters like the  IFC Center or Toronto’s TIFF Bell Lightbox (May 25th).

Coming off of a consistently sold out U.S. tour, and a run at Seattle’s SIFF Center that saw the film held over (extended) not once, but twice!   We are exceptionally excited to take the film out a little wider.  Here is the specific information:

Help get the film into more theaters...

A good performance during these engagements can help convince other theater programmers to take the film on board.  Being a self-distributed film, the absolute best way to sell ourselves to theater owners is by proving people will come.  The tour wen a long way towards accomplishing that.  But a strong NYC/LA/SF performance will help even more.

But How?
It’s pretty simple really.   

• If you are in these cities, please come check out the film.
• If you’ve already seen it, feel free to tell a friend.
• If you are not in these cities, but know people who are.  Please tell them about it.

And Yes, a Digital/DVD release is coming soon...

We LOVE the idea of more and more people experiencing this film in a theater, surrounded by others.  It truly does add something and makes for a better experience.  However, we know that we can’t get everywhere, and that there are a lot of people itching to see the film.  It’s coming and will be out digitally very soon after the theatrical run.  This is all leading to the digital, DVD release.  It’ll be here before you know it.  Expect an announcement on this soon.

In the meantime though, if you can catch the film in theaters, please do.  If you can help other theaters coming on board by spreading the word, we would absolutely love that.

We're headed back to Austin!

Indie Game: The Movie is screening, ONE NIGHT ONLY, on May 23rd at 6:45pm at the South Lamar Alamo Drathouse in Austin, TX.  As a film geek, showing at the Drafthouse is kinda a dream come true.  I came of filmmaker age, reading AICN daily, dreaming of this magical theater.  So to have our film up there is seriously mind blowing.  But back to the details...

Austin has a fantastic and very engaged independent games scene (Check out Juegos Rancheros  & Fantastic Arcade as a great starting point), and we know a lot of them will be turning up at the show.   It should be a great evening. 

There is only one show, and tickets might go quickly.  If you're thinking about going, you may want to pick up tickets sooner than later.  Here's the info...

We are extremely proud to announce that Indie Game: The Movie is an official selection of the 2012 Sheffield Doc / Fest!

There is an amazing number of exceptional documentaries in the festival and it's an absolute honour to be share the screen with them.

This will be our U.K. premiere of the film.  If you're in the area and want to catch some fine fine documentaries, you should be making your way to Sheffield for  June 13th -16th.

Specifically, Indie Game: The Movie is playing on...

In addition to the major center openings happening on May 18th.  We have teamed up with various organizations, theaters and just plain ol’ fantastic people to do a series' screening or one-off screenings in other cities, towns and countries.  The list is growing by the day.  And if anyone is interested, they can submit ‘Request A Screening Form’ on our site and we’ll try to make it happen.  

Here is a list of confirmed future showings...

Victor Lucas and Scott Jones from Electric Playground took a look at 'Indie Game...'.   We watched the video above with a combination of goosebumps, tears and smiles.  It's kinda everything you could hope a reviewer would get out of the film!  Lots of high fives going on over here!  ... well, actually it's just Lisanne and myself.  But multiple high fives were executed!

Oh, in case you don't want to sit through the video (though you should), they really dug the film, giving it two 9/10's!

The film is having a fantastic run in the city.  It has been held over (extended) not once, but twice by the SIFF Cinema.  In many ways, being held over is akin to exceed expectations, so we're thrilled to do it twice over.

We wanted to send a quick note to remind you that Indie Game; the Movie is doing a ONE NIGHT only screening tomorrow, thursday May 3rd in 37 select theaters across Canada. This event is presented and made possible by the HotDocs festival.  

Post Show Q & A:  Not only are we doing the show, but right after the movie ends, a live Q&A featuring the filmmakers, James Swirksy & Lisanne Pajot and FEZ creator Phil Fish will be beamed in via some very impressive satellite technology to each and every theater showing the film.  So come for the movie and stay for some post-show Q&A fun!
